Year of Research: 2026
This four-phase research and development study aimed to: 1) investigate current conditions, problems, and needs; 2) develop; 3) implement and examine the effectiveness of; and 4) evaluate an active social studies learning model based on athletes life contexts. Data sources comprised 44 documents, 42 students and teachers, seven key informants, and five experts. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design was employed with 40 Grade 8 students, assigned to experimental and control groups of 20 each. Instruments had Item-Objective Congruence indices of 0.601.00. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-tests, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), and content analysis.
The findings revealed that: 1) Current conditions were at a moderate level, whereas needs were high, particularly for simulation-based media and connections to athletes lives. 2) The developed SCORE Model comprises five components: the ACTIVE principles, objectives, a five-step process (Stimulate with Situation, Connect Knowledge, Operate and Practice, Reason and Reflect, and Extend to Real Life), a social system and principles of reaction, and a support and assessment system. Experts rated its appropriateness at a high level (mean of 4.50). 3) The experimental groups digital financial literacy competency and economic decision-making increased significantly after learning and, controlling for pretest scores, exceeded those of the control group at the .05 level, with a large effect size (partial η² = .70). Money management behavior also significantly exceeded that of the control group (partial η² = .34). Awareness of online financial threats was high, satisfaction was at the highest level, and 96.06 percent of learning was retained three weeks after the experiment. 4) The overall quality of the model was rated at the highest level (mean of 4.59), and all five experts certified it. The model is an innovation linking economics content to student-athletes real financial lives.
