Abstract
The objectives of this research study were to 1) develop of Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematic of Matthayomsuksa 3 students; 2) to evaluate the effectiveness of the developed Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematics of Matthayomsuksa 3 students and 3) to investigate the satisfactions of Matthayomsuska 3 students toward the effectiveness of the developed Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematics. The samples of this study were 35 students who were studying in Matthayomsuksa 3 at Watparerai Municipal School in the first semester of Academic year 2013. The samples were chosen by Cluster Random Sampling. The research instruments comprised a Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematics of Matthayomsuksa 3 students, lesson plans, tests, a test to investigate the students’ Higher Order Thinking characteristics in critical thinking and mathematic problem solving skills and questionnaires to find out the satisfactions of the students toward the developed instructional model. Percentage, Mean, S.D. dependent statics and document analysis were used for data analysis.
Results of the study were as follows.
1. The developed instructional model is called PPCE Model and it is consisted of principles and objectives, teaching and learning process and conditions of model implementation. The developed instructional model comprised four teaching stages: 1) Preparation: P; 2) Presentation: P; 3) Construction of Knowledge: C and 4) Evaluation : E. It was found that effectiveness of the developed Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematic in Mathematics of Matthayomsuksa 3 students was 83.13/84.22 and higher than the standard criteria of 80/80.
2. According to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the developed instructional model, it was found that the difference between the students’ learning achievement before and after learning with the developed Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematic in Mathematics of the Mattayomsuska 3 students was statistically significant at .05. Moreover, after learning with the instructional model, the students’ learning achievement was higher than it was before learning. Meanwhile, after learning with the Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematic in Mathematics for Matthayomsuksa 3 level, the students improve their Order Thinking skill higher than before learning with the program significantly at .05. Overall students had greater Higher Order Thinking after learning with the program than they had before learning.
3. The overall satisfaction of the Matthayomsuksa 3 students toward the use of the Mathematics Instructional Model Based on Constructivism Theory to Enhance Higher Order Thinking in Mathematic was at the Highest Level. The students’ opinion showed that they were satisfied with the teaching and learning evaluation the most because they could immediately be given their learning results at once and they became interested in it. The developed mathematic instructional model can help develop additional knowledge searching methods as well as help the students improve their learning performance better.
